Industry and government as well as consumers are becoming increasingly dependent on the vitality of ICT infrastructures to perform. Life without internet is unthinkable. People in the past considered the occasional lack of internet speed quite normal but nowadays we expect top quality from the systems around us. It is therefore crucial for industry and government to provide their staff and customers with good quality, robust ICT services.
The 21 professional at the Planning, Performance & Quality (PPQ) department combine their background in quantitative methods and modelling with telecom and ICT knowledge. This combination enables us to establish. Predict and improve the quality of our customers’ ICT services. The prominent position we hold in the European research world is expressed in active participation in various national and international research programmes.
The focus in our work lies in aspects like Robustness & Reliability, Quality of Experience,
KPI frameworks, Self-Optimisation, Capacity Management, Performance Analysis & Optimisation. The depth of knowledge we have in these fields is applied to areas such as telecommunication networks, IT systems and energy networks for customers in the specific market sectors of Telecom and Energy and for major purchasers of ICT services in the public and commercial sector.
The ambition of PPQ will focus on three goals in the coming two years:
1. Realising robust infrastructures for industry and government (Vital Infrastructures)
2. Positioning PPQ’s top knowledge in the market; boosting the PPQ reputation
3. Expanding our project portfolio by using our current innovative services in new markets
Within your role it is important that you signal trends and developments, set out and express a vision of Vital ICT infrastructures and services, specifically on performance and robustness. Through your knowledge and experience you create new customers and, as a result, new turnover. You are responsible for clearly identifying customer questions and linking these to innovative and viable solutions. Think, for instance, of projects like investigating the scalability of the root DNS system, designing the capacity management process for a major operator and advising on vendor selection. These projects enable you to make an impact on the customer. You are able to present these propositions at management level and use them as an inspiration to the environment. You also develop and maintain your strategic partnerships. You have a bridging role between the market and the department. This means that you see the possibilities our knowledge offers and help colleagues touch down with their knowledge and innovations. You are able to challenge people, motivate them and deploy them effectively. You also help your colleagues and customers build up insight into the impact of our advice on the primary operations of our customers. You have a tangible responsibility to educate juniors in this field
University background with strong feeling for modelling and quantitative methods;
Affinity with ICT infrastructures – experience of ICT system performance methods is a prerequisite
